The Billings Fair isn’t the official state fair, but just like in so many other states, it doesn’t have to be the official one to be the biggest and best. It has the most attractions, most events, and the biggest names, so by my book, much as the Puyallup Fair trumps the official Washington State [...]

There isn’t a whole heck of a lot along Montana’s highline, but the historic Highway 2 has a few gems to look out for. Specifically, they’re all in Havre and Malta. One such diamond in the plains is the Great Northern Hotel in Malta.

Great Falls is a great city, and one too few tourists take the time to visit. Sure it’s off the I-90 pretty far, but it’s a beautiful city, and one with many attractions for tourists and those looking to relocate there as well. One of the most fun things we found, however, was the official [...]

One of the most fun things we did last summer was take part in the “Slice of Country” evening in Billings, Montana. Renee from Montana Fun Adventures Tours recommended it as one of favorite family tours, and we were glad we took her advice.

There are as many reasons to visit the town of Philipsburg, Montana, as there are types of travelers in this world. Whether you’re looking for the cheap or free, the deeply historical, or the wildly entertaining, this small town has a little bit of something for everybody.

We’ve traveled the state far and wide, even hit the most obscure corners, and one thing we’ve never failed to miss is the innumerable “free museum” offerings. The most recent one we found, however, is easily the biggest and best of the free museums, and the value was second to none. Continue Reading

Fuel Talk with van der Valk for September 2, 2010 The October WTI crude contract hit $74 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange today. This came after an overall gain of almost 2% last week on top of two straight weeks of losses with the price hitting $75 a barrel last Friday. The [...] Continue Reading

This is a tad outside our normal area of expertise. We’ve never stayed there ourselves, and we aren’t paristologists by any means. Still, we’ve gotten email complaints from two readers thus far about it, and maybe it’s a breaking story. The Bozeman Hilton Garden Inn Hotel may be infested with bed bugs. Continue Reading

We spend a lot of time talking up the most amazing things around the greater northwest area, and considering that this includes all of Washington State, that means we end up reviewing a lot of highly funded places… but still, this place, lowly funded, and 70-years hence, is still pretty noteworthy. Continue Reading

It was a Sunday Morning when we rolled into the Roy Rogers in Terry,Montana, to stop in and get a filling meal. We had a group with us, we hadn’t announced ourselves, and yet we still got good service, great pizza, and a wonderful experience all around. Continue Reading

Over $10,000 was raised at the gala dinner on August 21, 2010 celebrating the opening of the Evelyn Cameron Heritage Theater. The theme was “Windows to the Past” at the historic Rialto Theatre located on Laundre Ave in Terry, Montana, which was appropriately decked out for the occasion. The heat from the 100 degrees weather [...] Continue Reading

We’ve covered a lot of hotels on our assorted journeys, these being more than three years of dedicated tours, and we have a pretty fair idea what makes for a good place. We’ve seen it all, done it all, and one thing we can say for sure is that the Hilton Garden Inn in Great [...] Continue Reading

If you are interested in bears, or your going to be passing through West Glacier, there’s a really unique place in West Glacier, or rather the town of Hungry Horse, where you can drive in and see real bears, and see them pretty cheap, and in their natural habitats at that. Continue Reading

We’re big fans of Chuck E. Cheese. I know it’s a big chain, but they’re as often run by real, local, hard-working people as any other business you might find, and they’re more professional than almost anyone you’ll find. The fun, value and professionalism in Billings is no exception. Continue Reading

A federal grand jury indicted Roger “the Rocket” Clemens on August 19, 2010 on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs. The indictment charges Clemens with one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury in connection with his February 2008 [...] Continue Reading

When it comes to free museums, my expectations are always fairly low, and understandably so. They’re staffed by volunteers, feature collections of stuff other museums are unwilling to buy, and normally offer little more than a big mass of old junk. The Frontier Gateway Museum in Glendive, however, shattered that stereotype forever, and they do [...] Continue Reading

Finding flavors of the best places from the coastal cities can be hard while traveling on the road, but one place in particular, the Best Western Kelly Inn in Billings, does all that and quite a bit more. They don’t just offer great rooms at prices you would expect, but a heck of a lot [...] Continue Reading
